It’s a new year, which means we have an opportunity to approach life from a new perspective. A lot of people will establish resolutions, which implies that they’ve determined the solution to an existing problem and now they’re going to fix it. Instead of being content, they set their sights on the results they want, and attempt to craft a strategy for the year to achieve “success” in those areas. More money. Better bodies. Better jobs. More friends. More responsibility. Less responsibility.
What if the problem IS the problem? What if the problems we’re trying to solve are the wrong problems?
When life gets hard for me, the hardships can always be traced back to a lack of focus. Instead of focusing on the things that are truly important to me, I get sidetracked. I focus on trivial issues or a false narrative for the definition of success. I need more money. I wish I had a better body. Maybe a better job would fix things? I find myself grasping for all of these things that we use to measure success, instead of focusing my efforts in what I know to be the right direction.
Instead of making resolutions for the new year, I plan to focus on the things that are truly important to me.
- Embracing God’s Love
- Family and Friends
- Serving Others
If I focus on HIM, and do my best to share HIS love with others, it will be a very successful new year. – CA
